The practice is headed by Martin Rimmer working together with Christine Teo.
Martin has been a UK tax adviser since 1997, working initially in the International Human Capital Services division of Arthur Andersen in London as a UK and US tax adviser. In 1999, he moved to The Fry Group based in Worthing where he held a variety of senior roles assisting British expatriates in Europe and the US. In August 2011 he relocated to Singapore to become Tax Manager – Asia Pacific, looking after the group’s clients throughout Asia and Australasia and was responsible for building The Fry Group’s Asia tax practice. In 2018, Martin moved to St. James’s Place Wealth Management to be Head of Tax for Select Investors, where he was responsible for delivering a market-leading UK tax and succession proposition to private wealth clients.
Martin is one of Asia’s leading UK tax advisers with vast and credentialed experience in the international aspects of UK personal taxation. Over the last 25 years or so Martin has helped many thousands of families with their tax planning and compliance, whether they are British expatriates, foreign nationals with UK assets, people returning to the UK and resident non-domiciled individuals. He has a particular gift for explaining tax in simple and intuitive ways that help clients to understand not only what they need to do to be tax-efficient, but also why. This is what drives Martin.
“At the heart of my client work is a desire to make and keep things simple and to break down what can be complex choices about tax law into relatable, intuitive and sensible planning steps that clients understand. I love my work and I know that it can make a very real difference to people’s lives”
“Ultimately, no-one does their tax planning because it is fun! We do it to save money and create financial security. However, tax planning by itself isn’t enough. It only really has meaning if it is part of a sound long term plan for your financial well-being. After all, tax planning, succession and financial planning are really just a means to an end. They exist merely so that you can fulfil your dreams and achieve your ambitions, which in turn leads to a happier and more contented life. It’s important not to lose sight of that – what we do, in essence, is to help our clients lead happier lives from a basis of financial peace of mind.”.
Martin is a British national and has lived in Singapore since August 2011, where he is also a Permanent Resident. He has a degree in German with International Business from Surrey University and is a Fellow of the Association of Taxation Technicians in the UK. He is engaged to Jean Mery and is dad to Daniel. Outside of work, Martin is a keen pianist and is a regular worshipper at St. Georges Church in Dempsey.
Christine Teo is a senior UK tax executive in the practice and can provide advice and assistance on both UK and Singapore personal tax. Christine holds a degree in Accounting and Finance, and was previously with a Big Four accounting firm, specialising in providing Singapore individual income tax compliance and advisory services to MNC clients. She believes professionalism and integrity are vital to building trust in clients’ relationships.
